1903 in Mtn. Grove community in Blountsville, Alabama. The
corner stone was laid by Mr. Joe Gable, Mr. John Dover, and
Mr. Rufus Sims. There were about 17 members at this time. The
pastor was Bro. W. H. Absher. Some of the known deacons at
this time were Mr. J. M. Chandler, Mr. L. L. Chamblee, Mr. J. S.
Pinyan, and Mr. C. C. Edwards. Mr. Jerry Chandler was the first
Superintendent of Sunday School.
The present church was built in the mid fifties.
Our Sunday School enrollment is around 65.
We have 6 Sunday school classes. Our present Sunday School
Superintendent is Brett Foust. Current teachers are Mandy Foust,
Patricia Shoemaker, Brett Foust, Milo Hamm, Boyce Foust, and
Jimmy Pinyan.
We have one of the longest continuous Winter Bible Studies in
our association, having been taught since 1925. We participate in
a children's Vacation Bible School every year in the summer. We
also have a Southern Gospel singing once a month and we still
have an All-Day Singing once a year.
Our aim at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist, by the aid of the
Holy Spirit, is to walk together in Christian love and to win souls
to Christ through love, loyalty, dedication, and service to
mankind. We most humbly thank God for our many years of
service, and we pray for his continued blessings and divine
guidance.

Joined church at Bethlehem Baptist and was baptized around 1980. Announced my call to preach on 11-1-81(which was also Beverly and My 23rd Anniversary). Preached first sermon at Bethlehem on 11-8-81, Bro Dewayne Kelly was my pastor. Ordained to go into the full work of the ministry at Concord Missionary Baptist Church by Bethlehem Baptist on 11-20-83. I have pastored 6 churches and two of them twice (Mtn Grove and Brooklyn). Beverly was saved as a teen and joined Lake Highland Baptist in East Lake before we were married. Lot of good memories at all the churches, we are having a great spirit filled time right now at Mtn Grove and pray for the advancement of our church in number and spirit. |
